A lot can be said about Claire McCardell as a designer, I like most what is written on her NYC Fashion Walk of Fame plaque ‘One of the most important fashion designers of the 20th Century, Claire McCardell helped create “The American Look.” McCardell pioneered the American style of casual sportswear, Inspired by activewear and menswear, she made practical, comfortable and wearable clothes. She was dedicated to the democratization of fashion. As she once said, “I belong to a mass production country where any of us; all of us, deserve the right to good fashion.”

Elegant and beautiful 1940s Claire McCardell for Townley purple silk jacquard polka dot dress. Elegant design with jabot tie collar, long cuffed sleeves, blouson bodice, pin-tuck front, brass ball buttons, nipped at the waist, with full twirable skirt. Made of the soft and rich purple silk with a jacquard polka dot pattern. Unlined, shoulder pads, with side metal zipper. Label ‘Claire McCardell Clothes for Townley’ circa late 1940s. In flawless vintage condition, dry clean only, ready to wear.
